eThekwini Municipality says replacement parts have been procured for vandalised pressure-reducing valves in northern Durban, with repair work scheduled to begin on 21 October 2026 in Lindelani and Ntuzuma G before moving to Inanda Newtown A and KwaMashu.
The intervention follows an oversight visit on 19 October to reservoirs and pressure-control infrastructure serving Ntuzuma, Lindelani, Inanda, Machobeni, uMzinyathi and KwaMashu. A related item appeared on the municipal news page on 20 October.
The City says recurring floods washed away water mains in Inanda Newtown A and that several areas in the Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu region remain supplied through lower-capacity temporary mains. It also attributes interruptions to vandalism and illegal connections.
The municipality put the cost of repairing one pressure-reducing valve at between R20,000 and R160,000. That range is a maintenance estimate, not a disclosed tender or contract value; the statement gives no procurement reference, supplier, aggregate repair budget or completion deadline.
New boreholes were also due to be handed over in Lindelani, Machobeni and Inanda during the week. The public record does not state their capacities, costs or commissioning results. Follow-up evidence should show completed valve repairs, restored pressure and supply, and the permanent-main replacement programme.
What it means
The procured valve parts provide a concrete near-term repair step, but sustained improvement depends on permanent mains and published evidence that water pressure and continuity have recovered.
