The Presidential eThekwini Working Group's economic development workstream says its Infrastructure Project Preparation and Partnerships Office has identified 21 projects for development and investment. eThekwini's detailed statement is dated 15 October 2026; a shorter item appeared on its news page on 16 October.
The City's account says the workstream advanced a public-private partnership framework and obtained business support for a Partnership Steering Committee. It does not name the 21 projects, give estimated values, identify funding sources or specify whether any has reached approval, tender or financial close. Identification for preparation should therefore not be read as a contract award or committed investment.
Three other Focus Intervention Teams cover manufacturing and industrial zones; development planning, charges and regulatory coordination; and problem buildings. The municipality says the last team has carried out joint inspections of priority sites and developed a dashboard, without publishing a site list or outcomes in this statement.
The update acknowledges remaining governance and infrastructure constraints. The next test of progress is a public project pipeline showing each proposal's location, sponsor, cost estimate, preparation stage and procurement route, followed by dated decisions and contracts.
What it means
A project preparation office could turn Durban's infrastructure priorities into investable or procurable schemes. The public record currently establishes a count and institutional steps, not delivery or secured finance.
