Transnet National Ports Authority said on 30 March 2026 that two preferred bidders had been selected for concessions in the Maydon Wharf precinct of the Port of Durban. TNPA said the transactions would unlock more than R1bn in private-sector investment.

African Port Logistics and Infrastructure, trading as KHOLD, was named preferred bidder for a fresh-produce and compatible break-bulk terminal with planned investment of R250m. A BAL SA and Africa Global Logistics consortium was named preferred bidder for a multi-purpose agricultural dry-bulk terminal with R810m in committed capital expenditure.

TNPA said both preferred bidders would enter negotiations to finalise Terminal Operator Agreements. The statement therefore records preferred-bidder selection and a next-step process, not the execution of final operating agreements.

What it means

The two proposals show how port access, private capital and public assets intersect. The concession duration is 25 years; implementation remains dependent on final agreements and delivery milestones.
